Appirits announced ‘Adventure with Beowulf’ in Einherjar – The Viking’s Blood

Beowulf is the oldest poetic work in English litereture on which many films and games have used to develop contents. And Appirits, the game producer of Einherjar – The Viking’s Blood, a turn-based web game, recently announced a new in-game event based on the image of this Geatish hero called “Adventure with Beowulf” from 16 to 23 January 2013 (GMT+8).

During the event’s period, Beowulf, the hero who is compared to another great hero Sigmund in Norse myths, will be ready to be summoned at the square. He will bear the blood of Schwertleite and has the skills of Shield II, Lightning Attack (unable to inherit). With strong stats, this hero will bring a lot of benefits to players on battlefields. So players are recommended to recruit him for their Viking force.

Besides, 2 new materials called Hrunting Blade and Hrunting Hilt will be created and scattered at the following maps: The mountains of fog giant, Black forest, Myrkvior, Muspelheim. Players then are required to collect them through expeditionary battles and complete a new quest in Hedeby city to obtain the powerful Hrunting Sword for their Beowulf.

How can I get gold? That’s the most frequently asked question. Several ways are offered to you:
-Do quests. To take a quest you must click on expedition button then head to the spot under your base called Hedeby. Go to the bar and here are the quests. Those are divided into two tabs: main quests and sub-quests. Main quests allow you to unlock new maps, get very cool items or gold in the case of bring x equips. It is advised to start with the sub-quest kill archers x5. It is pretty easy and fastly done and rewards you with 3k gold. Suggested to farm the first two spots of the first map for those.
-Trade silvers for gold in the market of Hedeby. The price for those is changed everyday at 00.00 server time and can vary from 50 to 100 gold each. Silvers are auto-produced by the building Market, the higher the level of the market, the more silvers are produced. You can have up to three markets (same maximum for all auto-producing facilities) and auto-produced goods are acquired every 8 hours at 00.00, 08.00 and 16.00 server time. Silvers are also used to repair weapons via the repair tab in the production menu.
List of items produced by auto-produce facilities:
-Sell stuff in the market. You can stall up to 7 different kinds of items at once. Everything is sellable with the correct price.
-Participate in the Colony War (cw) with a guild every week-end. Fort each colony taken (up to two per guild) a pool of money and items is randomly distributed among each guild members during each maintenance which occurs every Wednesday between 14.00 & 17.00 server time (usually it ends up to one hour earlier cause the staff roxx and work fast). Best colony has a pool of 2M gold distributed equally between all guild members.
-Get into the top 10 of the weekly ranking (ranking then battle tab). Each player in the top 10 of this ranking on Sunday at 04.00 server time get 10k gold and a random cool item (different for every players in the top 10). Plus the first player of the ranking get an extra 100k gold. You also get 250 free silvers at this moment if you have a unit in the top 30 of the unit ranking, but you’ll have a long way to achieve this goal.
-Raid other players. If you successfully raid another player, you’ll get 10% of his gold, 10% of his food and a random item with rarity that he may own. If the target has a higher notoriety then you do, you’ll get 20% of his gold, 20% of his food, 20% of his silvers and the item with rarity. Note: equipped items and items stalled in the market cannot be raided, this is the best way to protect your precious things. So if one day you successfully raid someone who had 5 rarity for example and you get no item it means that he had an item with 5 rarity that was equipped (items sold in Hedeby aren’t counted in the rarity rate). You can see the rarity of your items in the item tab before the details of the item. Raiding can be a dangerous experience, indeed any unit that die in a raid attack lose one LP just like in expedition. Once a unit reaches 0LP it simply disappear. It is suggested for beginners to try to raid the player with the lowest civilisation and no guild in their target list. Usually they have no defense at all and thus it’s an instant win for you. Units in defense never lose LP or weapons durability.
-Battle in expedition. every time you clear a stage you’ll get some gold and some drops by chance.

Review of Einherjar – The Viking’s Blood on MMOHunter

Einherjar – The Viking’s Blood is a free-to-play browser-based game mixed with turn-based tactic and role-playing elements. Set in the backdrop of conquest and exploration around the 10th century, it casts players in the role of Viking leaders who will build home and join wars for growth. Generally, it is built on the basis of RTS but designed with turn-based battles and more details such as aging units, production of various goods, cold sleep, marriage system and so on.

Einherjar – The Viking’s Blood is extremely slow, if not accelerated by real money. Have you ever upgraded a structure from Lv. 1 to Lv. 1.1? Honestly, it is the first game that seems to have pushed slow-pace to the extremity. To level up the Lordhouse from Lv. 1 to Lv. 2, you have to go through 10 phases, five minutes each. In the very beginning, you can but follow the quest line, one quest at a time. Only when you finish one task can you unlock the next.

The entire gameplay simulates real life more than any other strategy game does to certain degree. In it, you will need to make logs into wood or ores to stone; you can ‘sometimes’ collect stone ores while quarrying, or ‘occasionally’ catch bears while hunting; and you need to dispatch units with specific attribute such as x amount of intelligence to construct certain buildings. Besides, your military units will grow and age – those below 12 years old can’t make expedition; those grown up can marry and give birth to baby; and all units grow to learn new skills while aging makes them weak with reduced stats starting from age 30. The aging system is interesting but vague – there is no clear explanation about how the unit can be one year older.

You can choose your character out of three weapon-locked avatars, Axe, Sword or Spear. Along with it is the triangle relationship of strength and weakness – Axe beats Spear, Spear beats Sword and Sword beats Axe. This is the basic factor you need to consider in deployment of units in turn-based battles. As you move on, you can also get the other three class types, including Sister (use recovery magic), Half Elf (ranged spellcaster), Archer, Guard and Dark Elf, each of which can only be recruited with special items such as Gospel and Yggdrasill Branch dropped by rare monsters. So to build up a strong army is slow and requires grinding a lot in the wild. And the units can be lost forever if their Life Points are drained to zero in battles.

Once you have a group of units (old enough to explore), you can take them into battles against NPC opponents firstly. Such kind of quests are offered in the bar of Hedeby, which may send you to defeat Ragnar- the corpse manipulator if you have met the quest condition of having the Book of Necromancer. 20 days’ travel? How long is that in real life? More than an hour; of that, I’m sure of. Again, the slowness beings to dampen the playing enthusiasm and the battle morale.

Also in Hedeby, you can find the market, guild and arena, which are self-explanatory of their function. Besides, you can also combine collected materials to craft new items which allow you to increase stats, boost HP or unlock a new skill to weapon. The marriage system allows units above 15 years old to marry and give birth to children who have a chance to inherit the Viking blood and learn advanced skills earlier; and the Cold Sleep system allows you to preserve the temporarily unused units, but requires 300 Power, the premium currency, for 30 days. Money can also buy in-game advantages such as double EX, double drop rate and fast forward one year, etc.

Einherjar – The Viking’s Blood has traditional strategy gameplay that digs deep to details and reveals of rich contents over time. However, it is highly possible that many players will leave the game and never return before they can discover what’s stored in the gameplay due to its unreasonable snail pace.
